Air conditioning installation in North Petherton

The job

The customer had a small detached two bedroom bungalow in North Petherton, near Bridgwater, that sits in the sun for most of the day. Through the summer the whole property became uncomfortably hot. The owners wanted to cool it down, but they did not want fans blowing directly at them while sitting or sleeping. The property needed an air conditioning system planned around its layout: a sensible position for the indoor unit, a workable spot for the outdoor unit, and a way of removing condensate from the indoor unit.

What we did

We recommended a 3.5 kW Daikin air conditioning system with the indoor unit mounted above the front door in the central hallway. The hallway runs through the middle of the bungalow with a bedroom off either side, so cool air from that one position travels towards the adjoining rooms while the unit stays well away from beds and seating areas. We fitted the indoor unit above the front door and mounted the outdoor unit on external wall brackets, then ran the insulated refrigerant pipework and finished it in white trunking. An Aspen Mini Lime condensate pump was fitted to carry condensate away from the indoor unit in its hallway position.

Challenges

The outdoor unit could not be installed directly behind the indoor unit, so the pipework had to take a separate route around the property. The hallway position also meant the condensate could not simply run away on its own, which is why we fitted the Aspen Mini Lime pump rather than moving the indoor unit to a less effective spot.

The result

The system now cools the whole bungalow from a single indoor unit in the hallway, and the home is far more comfortable in warm weather. The installation took one day. It is a good example of how much the position of a unit matters on a smaller property: the size and layout of this North Petherton bungalow meant one well placed indoor unit could cool throughout, and the condensate pump let us keep the hallway position that made it work.
